I’m very excited to blend my functional and integrative medicine education with my long and varied women’s healthcare experience to bring women a truly transformative approach to health and healing.
Midwife. Mother. Woman.
As a MIDWIFE OF OVER 20 YEARS, I have cared for many women of all ages during their pregnancies, labors, births, postpartum periods and for their gynecology needs. I became a midwife because I honor the birth process as a normal life event and I honor the human body, which is remarkably resilient with an intelligent capacity to birth, heal and thrive.
Midwives listen to women, without judgement or prejudice, and care for women from their head-to-toes, not just breasts-to-pelvis. Women are often the barometer of family well-being; when women are healthy and happy their families thrive. I empower each woman to take charge of her health and her life, guiding her toward feeling her best and toward living a healthy, full and vibrant life.
As A MOTHER OF OVER 30 YEARS, I know firsthand the effects and influences that parents have on their children – emotionally, spiritually and physically.
Witnessing the positive impact that a functional and integrative approach to pregnancy and birth has on both mother and baby’s health is truly enlightening. Looking back at my early mothering years, I have found some shocking clarity that sheds light on my children’s behaviors, struggles and health issues. Many are rooted in my pregnancies and the way in which each of them entered this world through my body.
Both of my children are bright, beautiful and accomplished human beings who fill me with joy. I wish I knew then, what I know now.
As A WOMAN OF OVER 50 YEARS, I have my own healthcare issues. Many healthcare providers have found their way to practicing functional and integrative medicine through their own health struggle. I am certainly no different; this was my path also. I am, however, an atypical functional and integrative practitioner in that I have yet to completely overcome my health issues.
After giving birth to my children, I immersed myself in all things birth related and quickly went from childbirth educator and doula to midwife. I loved catching babies and caring for women, but over the years, the grueling hours and high demands of working in conventional healthcare and raising a family brought me tremendous stress. Lo and behold – my health declined and I was taking Synthroid for hypothyroidism, Metformin for diabetes, and trying every diet imaginable to lose weight.
I eventually left conventional hospital-based midwifery practice and opened a homebirth practice that was very nourishing for me. I began learning about functional and integrative medicine, bringing that into my practice where I could. I was caring for women and their families AND myself, truly holistically. I finally started incorporating the health advice I had given others into my own life – practicing what I preached.
Today, after implementing the principles of functional and integrative medicine, I have normal thyroid function, my diabetes is under control and I’ve begun to lose weight. I still strive for optimal health yet I finally feel like I’m on the right path to get there.
Why am I telling you all this??
Because I’ve been there, and I know where you are coming from.
I can’t promise you perfect results, I can’t promise you quick results. But if you are looking to optimize your health in a natural, holistic and self-nourishing way and feel motivated to take a hard look at what needs to change to get there — let me help you take that special journey to finding your whole and healthy self.
